About me…
I‘ve been practicing yoga for nearly 30 years and when I first started I was fairly flexible and always preferred the stronger forms of yoga. I loved it so much that I became a yoga teacher in 2012.
About 6 months after having my second child I injured myself in a yoga class by over-stretching. Although I was very flexible, I felt stiff, and I would lie in bed at night with my leg throbbing. I spent a fortune on chiropractors, physiotherapy and massage, but none of it worked. I also started doing pilates and became a pilates teacher. This practice helped to an extent, but at times I still struggled to walk to the shops – and this went on for 10 years!
In 2015 I attended a Scaravelli inspired yoga workshop with Bill Wood that blew me away and made me realise I couldn’t continue to teach my classes in the way I had been up until that point. There was a lot more movement in the workshop than I was used to, and no long held postures. My body loved this and I attended as many Scaravelli inspired workshops as I could find from then on, including continuing to work with Bill.
At the same time I discovered Somatics and found it fitted beautifully with the Scaravelli practice. Small gentle movements and no overstretching, created more space and freedom in my body, and calmed my nervous system, helping improve my sleep. In 2020 I qualified as a Gentle Somatic Yoga Practitioner with James Knight.
I have recently complete a deepening practice course with Caroline Lang. Both Bill and Caroline are long term students of Diane Long and Sandra Sabatini, who both trained directly with Vanda Scaravelli.
I’m currently doing a course with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen on body-mind centering® exploring the embodiment of cellular-consciousness, through movement.
“I’m 71 years old and suffer from Fibromyalgia. I was advised by my Rheumatologist to try and use pacing and relaxation techniques to help with my pain (i.e. work for a short period of time then rest, relax or meditate for 45 minutes). I decided to try yoga and joined Kate’s class a year ago. After about 5 weeks I noticed I had more movement in my joints and had started to listen to my body. At my next appointment with the Consultant he said how much more flexibility and strength I had. Thanks to Kate’s knowledge, patience and a charming sense of humour I’m now able to work through my pain and the meditation helps with brain fog and my sleeping, which means I have a much better quality of life. I highly recommend Kate and am so glad to have found her. Thank you Kate.”
